REVIEW: Teenage Moods: Grow

TM-GROW25 Diamonds is releasing the second Teenage Moods LP ‘Grow’, and I’m glad they did. This album is fucking great. It’s a nice mix of garage rock and power pop. I haven’t heard a band quite like this in a very long time, there are bands that have elements of this but none that really put it together like these guys do. Every one of these songs rules and I just can’t stop listening to this album, it gets better every time I listen to it. Anybody that likes rock, garage or power pop should really check this album out; chances are there’s a lot in it for you.

REVIEW: Pretty Pretty: Demo

FolderEvery once in a while I’ll hear a demo that will catch me and I’ll just listen to it over and over, this is one of those demos. Pretty Pretty has an awesome mix of garage rock and power pop that I can’t pull away from. I don’t even know how many times I’ve listened to these six songs already; let’s just say it’s a lot. They remind me a lot of Full of Fancy but leaning more towards the rock side of things then they did. This is a demo that’s not to be missed; all of these songs are great, so much so that I can’t even pick a favorite out of them. This is just one big helping of great songs, dig in.

1. Too Kind
2. Basement Dark
3. High Anxiety
4. Counting Hours
5. Like Antiques
6. Heart Aches

REVIEW: Museum Mouth: Sexy But Not Happy

Personally I’m pretty burnt out on the whole lo-fi garage pop rock thing, but even through these jaded ears I still really enjoyed this album. Museum Mouth self-released this album, it’s a twelve song (thirteen if you count the extra) release that starts off a little slow but picks up momentum fast. The worst thing I can really say about this is the kid on the album cover creeps me out. While I won’t call every song on this album great, there isn’t any that I would call bad at all. There are some low kind of depressing points here, but that’s what the lo-fi rock brings to the table a lot of time, ‘Blood Hammer’ and ‘SW Ahili’ are a couple of stand out songs and ‘Bigger Problems’ is just damn incredible. As a whole I’d say the album is good, a solid B grade, but with those three songs alone it’s worth the price of the album. Lo-fi rock and pop fans take note, if you’re into things like Waaves and Vivian Girls, Museum Mouth is most likely for you.

1. Goodbye, Evan
2. Sexy But Not Happy
3. For Mom
4. Blood Mountain
5. Certain Doom
6. Bigger Problems
7. I Was A Teenage Paladin
8. Blood Hammer
9. Swahili
10. Buzzbrain
11. 2005
12. Hell Hawk

Alright this is the first time I think I’ve attempted this, a couple notes first here. I’m leaving ‘Iron Maiden: Flight 666’ of the list here because Iron Maiden is in a league of their own and will always capture the top spot with an unfair advantage. Second note I’m also leaving off ‘Death: For The Whole World To See’ it was released this year but actually happened in the 70’s, so I’m not sure if it qualifies. If I leave it on it would most likely be in the top 5 because it is amazingly awesome. Also I’m not including 4 that would have most likely made it, “R.A. the Rugged Man: Legendary Classics Vol 1”, “Deep Sleep: Three Things At Once”, “Psyched To Die: Year One” and “Drag the River: Bad at Breaking Up” because they are compilations. And lastly I’m not including “Judas Priest: A Touch of Evil: Live” because it is a live album.

REVIEW: The White Wires: Self Titled

Like catchy low-fi rock n roll? Enjoy current bands with a classic rock sounding influence? Then you should like the White Wires. Originally this record was put out by Going Gaga Records in Ottawa, it had a pressing of three hundred twenty-five. It almost immediately went out of print. Luckily Douchemaster Records was able to put out a second pressing for us, given this great second chance you shouldn’t sleep on this one. The intro of the first track you already know your in for something good, good twangy riffs of the 60’s era quickly going into what you might expect from current pop punk/garage rock bands. This fusion continues the whole way through until you realized you’ve just listened to a kick ass record.
