Shriek Show Presents: British Horror
Ok first off I’m not sure why this is called ‘British Horror’ instead of just the ‘Pete Walker Collection’; all four movies are done by Pete Walker and it even says the Pete Walker Collection on the individual DVD’s. Oh well, I guess British Horror sells better than Pete Walker. Not that that matters, I bought this for one movie, “Frightmare”, see “Frightmare” is great and I didn’t own it, stupid thing is it’s the same price to buy the box set as it is to buy the movie alone so I figured why not. So let’s dive right in here. Oh and a side note, I slam a lot of the commentaries on the DVDs. I love commentary, it’s probably my favorite feature but Pete Walker is apparently terrible at it.
Die Screaming Marianne: First off this isn’t a horror movies, it’s more of a drama film, unfortunately not a very good one. This film is dreadfully boring, a woman marries a dude but by a mistake at the wedding she marries the wrong man, blah blah blah snooze snooze, avoid this one folks. The DVD includes commentary by Pete Walker which is just slightly more interesting than the movie.
The Flesh and Blood Show: This movie is a complete turnaround from the previous, this one is great. A horror thriller with a classic and simple plot. A group of actors are hired for a show at an abandoned theater and are killed off one by one. It’s got some great twists and turns, I love it. On the DVD we’ve got a pretty good twelve minute interview with Pete Walker.
House of Whipcord: Alright this movie is kind of fucked. We start out with a French model who had taken nude photos; she was fined and left to go on with her life. Then she meets ‘Mark’ whom seduces her and brings her to this capital punishment prison, stemmed from, of course, the world church. This is like a dungeon prison run by angry lesbians with 3 consequences for breaking the rules. Strike one, solitary confident, Strike two, flogging, Strike three hanging…Don’t expect a happy ending here folks. The DVD includes some pretty boring commentary by Pete Walker.
Fightmare: Ah Frightmare, the main event in this box set. The story of two sisters, the younger one is a bit troubled and rebellious due to their parents’ early death. Only they aren’t dead, they were committed for cannibalism. Years later the couple were ‘cured’ and released. Well ol’ mom’s up to her old tricks again and some of those tricks run in the family. This ’74 classic still holds up today. Once again on the DVD we’ve got not very thrilling commentary by our main man Mr. Pete Walker.
