Phoenix Thunderstone: Under the Covers
The first thing you’ll notice about this is what prompted me to buy it – the fucking awesome cover. A pirate fucking a pirate girl on the cover of the record, how can you not buy this? I couldn’t resist, neither could a friend of mine who bought a copy at the same time. It wasn’t until I got this thing home that I realized what it contained. One song, a Johnny Cash cover “Get Rhythm” and the other and Adam Ant cover “Goody Two Shoes”. I’m not a big fan of Adam Ant but I figured I’d give it a chance, it is a cover song after all. And I am quite the Johnny Cash Fan. When you put this record on and actually listen to it first think that may catch you off guard is the vocals, almost raspy vocals that are too low to be a scream but to shredded not to be. Not quite bad, but not good either. The Cash cover was half way decent, not the best I’ve ever heard but not the worst thing either. The flip side however was just plain bad. The vocals do not work at all with this song and Adam Ant stays on my shit list. Over all its a pretty bad record but I own worse. If you can pick this up cheap, and I mean really cheap, at least you get some of the coolest cover art ever out of it.
1. Get Rhythm
2. Goody Two Shoes
